One thing about the chapter that I am not sure I followed was the author's distaste for web services and issues with versioning. At the end of the day, web services may not be easiest beasts to tame, but can be useful.

Resource-Oriented Architectures (BA ch 5)
I enjoyed reading this chapter in the book. I liked to hear the author's perspective on why RESTful architectures are a good thing. A few years back I worked on a project that was implemented using Ruby on Rails and just recently we finished up a project using ASP.NET MVC framework. Both were very similar business applications ... they managed and provided a front-end to a bunch of data in a database (exciting I know!). Using this type of architecture seemed to be a natural fit and scaled extremely well.
